Cameroonian striker Alain Akono sign for Asante Kotoko

The Porcupine Warriors [Asante Kotoko]  are set to announce the signing of former AS Fortuna striker for their 2022-2023 season

The reigning Ghana Premier League champions Asante Kotoko have reached an agreement to acquire the service of Cameroonian internal striker Alain Thiery Akono.

The 26-year-old Cameroonian international will  join the Asante Kotoko (the Kumasi-based Premier League outfit) on a free transfer after being released by the Moroccan top-tier side SC Chabab Mohammedia last month.

Alain Akono scored one goal in 9 appearance for his former club SC Chabab Mohammedia after arriving at the club mid-season.

However, reports reaching us from the player himself [Alain Thiery Akono] says that he asked the club to release him since the club did not respect the clauses in his contract.

According to exclusive reports, Asante Kotoko have agreed personal terms with the player and his representatives to land him on a two-year deal subjected to medical examination.

If the deal goes through smoothly, it seems he is joining the reigning Ghana Premier League champions as a replacement for his compatriot Franck Mbella Etouga Thiery who is currently on Italian Serie A outfit Udinese Calcio transfer radar and is willing to join them. Franck Mbella Etouga Thiery finished the 2021-2022 season as second top scorer with 21 goals just one goal behind Yaw Annor of Ashanti Gold.

Before making a return to Africa, Alain Akono had a short stint with Malaysian side Negeri Sembilan FC after an unsuccessful spell at Tanzanian giants Azam FC.

Alain Akono was a standout performer for Mfoundi base club AS Fortuna in the 2019-2020 Cameroon MTN Elite One after scoring ten (10) goals helping them from sinking into relegation.

Akono was also named in the Cameroon national squad selection for the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled for April 2020, but was postponed until January 2021. It forced Akono to withdraw from the Cameroon national squad selection as he had to travel out of the country for better opportunities.

Alain Akono has played 2 friendlies for the Cameroonian home base national team in 2020 scoring one goal in the process.
