Coton Sport of Garoua crowned MTN Elite One 2022 champions as Captain Marou Souaibou dedicates victory to late Foe Marc-Vivien
The Cotonites of Garoua have retained the MTN Elite One championship after defeating Eding Sport of Lekie on penalties.
The match was played on the 3th of July 2022 and kicked off at 8PM GMT +1 in the Northern region of Cameroon at the Roumde Adjia stadium.
The ever exciding and intensive match match came to a half way break with a score line of 0-0 as both teams failed to find the back of the net despite many interesting and threatening moments.

However, Eding Sport managed to take the lead against the ground breaking Coton Sport of Garoua in the second half of the game. In the 91st minute when Eding Sport were ready to start jubilating, then Coton Sport’s Kaiba equalized to send the match to extra time. The game however ended with a 1-1 draw.
Coyton Sport of Garoua carried the day thanks to a last penalty save by Fru Anye Derick who eventually was voted Man of the Match and possibly the goalkeeper of the season after keeping more than 10 clean sheets in less than 15 games all season.

The crowned MTN Elite One 2022 champions, Coton Sport of Garoua has now won 17 Elite one titles and have also been crowned back-to-back champions in the last two season. since PWD Bamenda in 2020. Coton Sport of Garoua has won the MTN Elite One title 15 times in the last 22 seasons (since 2000).
This means that Coton Sport win head home with the MTN Elite one trophy and a sum of 50 Million CFA as promised by Fecafoot boss, Samuel Eto’o when he took over office in December 2021.

Captain Marou Souaibou of Coton Sport of Garoua after their victory vs Eding Sport yesterday dedicated their 17th league title to late indomitable Lions legend Marc-Vivien Foe who is known for wearing the iconic 17 shirt while on duty with the Cameroon national team.
