MTN Elite One – The battle for the Cameroon MTN Elite One championship and survival continues as the group stage games come to an end

On Sunday 26th of June 2022, group A which consisted of 13 Elite One teams played their last game of the group stage.

Although the teams which should be contesting for Cameroon’s most prestigious football title, MTN Elite One championship were already decided since matchday 23, the battle for relegation survival in group A was still warm as YOSA (Yong Sport Academy) still needed a point to stay off relegation zone and the relegation playoff zone from Panthere of Nde.

On Matchday 24, YOSA faced Tonnerre Kalara of Yaoundé as the fit 4 to 1 pass the Yaounde Mvog Ada base club thanks to a hattrick from captain Tengomo Emmanuel and a goal from Kadji Collins hence securing their stance off relegation playoffs.

Panthere of Nde also went on to win Fortuna in a 9 goal thriller which saw the Nde club win 5-4 hence standing a chance to feature at the next edition of the MTN Elite One season if they win their playoff against group B playoff opponent.

The Battle for the 2022 MTN Elite One Championship

On the 30th of June 2022, the four teams (two from group A and two from group B) contesting for the championship title playoffs will begin.

Canon Sport of Yaounde (2nd in group A) will face Eding Sport of Lekie (1st in group B) while Coton Sport of Garoua (2ndin group B) will face Astres of Douala (1st in group A). The Winners from here will face each other in a finals to decide Champion of the Cameroon league.

The Battle for the 2022 MTN Elite One Relegation Playoffs

As it stands, Panthere of Nde will face Yafoot in the Elite One relegation playoffs. the winner will be incorporated into the next seasons MTN Elite One campaign.

The Loser from the Panthere vs Yafoot relegation playoffs will join already relegated OFTA of Kribi, New Stars of Douala, Racing of Bafoussam and Tonnerre Kalara of Yaounde in the MTN Elite Two from next season.
