Breaking News: The Cameroon MTN Elite One Championship to adopt a new format for the 2021-2022 season with the opening game venue still unchanged

According to a press release from the FECAFOOT head quarters in Yaounde, the MTN Elite One championship will adopt a new format for the 2021-2022 season to meet up with CAF deadline standards.

According to the press release, despite rumours that the championship will be played in a single group of one leg in neutral grounds, a decision has been reached that though grounds have been changed but the groups A and B remain unchanged.

However, the opening match which was scheduled for Wednesday 16th of March 2022 will be played out of the selected grounds (Yaounde, Limbe, Douala and Bafoussam) in Mbouda.

“The Secretary General of the Cameroon Football Federation brings to the attention of the opinion that an important consultation involving FECAFOOT, the Transitional Council of Professional Football (CTFP) and the presidents of the professional clubs of the MTN Elite One Championship was held this March 14, 2022 at the headquarters of FECAFOOT in Yaoundé.

The said meeting, convened on the initiative of the President of FECAFOOT, aimed to find solutions to determine the champion of Cameroon before June 30, 2022, the deadline set by the Confederation of African Football to present the representatives in African interclub competitions. for next season.

From cordial and constructive discussions, it emerged that:

The MTN Elite One Championship for the 2021/2022 season will be played in two subgroups of 13 and 12 clubs respectively;

In order to respect the deadlines set by CAF, it was decided on the grouping formula in the cities of Yaoundé, Douala, Bafoussam and Limbe;

At the end of the group stage of the Championship, the clubs ranked 1st and 2nd in each group will compete in one-way cross matches as follows: 1st A vs 2nd B: 1st B vs 2nd A. The respective winners of these matches will play a final which will consecrate the Champion of Cameroon. The losers will face each other in a match that will establish the classification of 3rd and 4th.

At the end of the season, the clubs classified in the last 05 places will be relegated to the Elite Two Championship as follows: the last 02 of each group as well as the loser of the support match between the 11th of group A and the 10th of pool B.

FECAFOOT will take care of the accommodation and catering of the teams during the various regroupings;

The Champion of Cameroon will receive an envelope of 50 million Fcfa;

The launch of the MTN Elite One Championship will take place on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at the Municipal Stadium of Mbouda through the poster BAMBOUTOS FC vs PWD DE BAMENDA”
