Top 10 Nigerian Footballers under the age of 25 years to Keep watching as the 2021-2022 season progresses
The 2020-2021 season was an impressive season for Nigerian footballers around the world, with a number of stars coming under the spotlight. Players like Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, Paul Onuachu, Joe Aribo and Samuel Chukwueze helped their teams win trophies across Europe’s finest club competitions.
With over two months into the 2021-2022 European football season, BraggsSports takes a look at the top 10 Nigerian footballers under the age of 25 years you should definitely be keeping an eye on as the season progresses.
1. Victor Osimhen (22) – Napoli
The Napoli youngster has already cracked the starting 11 for the Serie A side. Osimhen has already made 10 appearnces for the Serie A leaders scoring 5 times. He has also featured in 3 out of Napoli’s 4 Europa League games this 2021-2022 scoring 4 goals so far.
He has a lethal record for Nigeria, with 8 goals in 16 caps for the Super Eagles, and without doubt is one of the country’s top prospects.
2. Taiwo Awoniyi (24) – Union Berlin
At 24 Taiwo Awoniyi has already had a journeyman’s career. He has gone on loan to various clubs. He is currently on loan to Union Berlin from Liverpool. Many have compared him to Rashidi Yekini, Nigeria’s all-time top scorer.
So far this season with the German Bundesliga side, Awoniyi has scored 7 goals in 11 appearance in the Bundesliga so far this season. Taiwo Awoniyi has also registered a goal in 2 DFB-Pokal games for far this 2021-2022 season.
He is tall and huge and can be effective in the air and when receiving crosses. He has represented Nigeria in all of their youth teams and has yet to earn his first cap. He has the skills and the talent but he needs to find a home and consistency.

3. Umar Sadiq (24) – Almeria
The young forward who plays for Almeria has found a home in Spain. He has scored 7 goals for Almeria in 15 Segunda Division Matches so far this 2021-2022 season.
A tall forward who is good in the air. Although Umar Sadiq has only featured for the U23 Super Eagles, this could be his breakout year where he works his way into the national team.
4. Kelechi IHEANACHO (24) – Leicester City
Iheanacho finished last season as his team’s top scorer. From February to May Kelechi Iheanacho was on fire and justified his inclusion. This season, he not only has Jamie Vardy to fight for a place against but also with the arrival of the speedy Patson Daka.
He has already made 15 appearance for Brendan Rodgers Leicester so far this season in all competitions scoring twice.
5. Wilfred NDIDI (24) – Leicester City
Ndidi is so good and humble in his game, it is daunting. Many EPL followers have touted the defensive midfielder to one of the big four for the past three transfer windows but the leggy player starts his sixth season at Leicester, hoping to continue to prove once again that he is good enough for any top-four side in Europe’s top five leagues.
Last season, Ndidi was at the heart of the Foxes defence and midfield and contributed in no small measure to a first-ever FA Cup triumph. In the season opener against Manchester City last Saturday, he took top marks as Leicester added the Community Shield to their array of accomplishments in the last five seasons.
Ndidi made the fourth-most tackles in the EPL with 96 from 26 appearances. He also provided four assists and scored one goal to come in fifth at the end of the season.
He has also already featured in 10 matches for Leicester so far this season in all competitions though his season has been bared by injuries.

6. Emmanuel DENNIS (23) -Watford
The young Nigerian centre-forward has caught the eyes of his Watford boss and has already been involved in 10 Premier League games for Watford so far this season scoring 3 times.
Emmanuel Denis has also featured in 2 EPL Cup games for Watford.
7. Samuel Chukwueze (22) – Villareal
The young Villarreal winger has been in Spain since 2018 moving up from the youth team to the senior squad. With well over 71 appearances in La Liga, Chukwueze is gaining good experience for his young age.
so far this season, after a long recovery journey from injury since the last season, Samuel Chukwueze has featured in 5 LaLiga games this 2021/2022 season. He has also made 2 appearance for Villareal in the champions League scoring 1 goal.
He has earned 15 caps with the Super Eagles and will be looking to build on his already impressive reputation during this next round of international call ups.
8. Terem Moffi (22) – FC Lorient
The 22-year-old forward player was a revelation last season, playing a vital role in Lorient’s escape from relegation in the Ligue 1. Ending the season with 14 Ligue 1 goals, the fifth highest in the league and the most a Nigerian Player has scored in a single Ligue 1 campaign since Victor Ikpeba (16) for Monaco in the 1997/1998 season.
Terem Moffi has already made 12 appearances for FC Lorient this 2021/2022 season scoring 2 goals in the course.
9. Frank ONYEKA (23) – Brentford
Onyeka has started strongly with Brentford as he scored in a 2-1 win over Valencia in a friendly. The powerful box-to-box midfielder showcased his talent in last season’s Champions League and helped FC Midtjylland to the group stages.
Onyeka has been capped once by Nigeria, but he seeks to add more caps with his performances for the Brentford and has made 12 appearance in all competitions for Brentford so far this season.
10. Henry Onyekuru (24) – Olympiacos
Henry Onyekuru has plays as a midfielder for Greece giants Olympiacos. He has already made 7 appearance for Olympiacos so far this 2021/2022 season in the Greece Super League. He has also made 6 Europa League appearance for Olympiacos this 2021/2022 campaign scoring 1 goal.
At the international level, he has earned 13 caps for the Super Eagles and scored 2 goals.
