Done Deal: Ex-Tottenham defender and Ivory Coast captain Serge Aurier released in the summer secures La Liga move to Villarreal CF
Serge Aurier signs for Villarreal on initial one-year deal; former Spurs right-back agreed to mutually terminate his contract with the north London club in August; Aurier will link up again with Villarreal boss Unai Emery, who coached him at Paris Saint-Germain.
Aurier joins Villarreal as a free agent after terminating his contract by mutual consent last month while at Tottenham.
Villarreal announced: “Villarreal CF have reached an agreement with Serge Aurier, who joins the Yellows as a free agent and will represent the Yellows this season, with the option of extending the link between both parties for two further campaigns.
“After completing his medical and signing his Villarreal contract, Aurier will head off to represent his country, Côte d’Ivoire, who have called him up for two World Cup qualifiers against Malawi (Friday 8th and Monday 11th October).
“The defender will join up with the Yellows after the international break and will be presented officially as a new Yellows player when he returns to Spain.”

The former PSG right-back will be looking to make his presence felt after becoming an outcast in the latter stages of his tenure at Spurs. Villarreal have been establishing their presence once again as they defeated Manchester United last season to clinch the Europa League title.
Another ex-Tottenham player Juan Foyth made a permanent move to the Spanish club Villarreal recently and Serge Aurier would be competing with him to gain a starting spot in Emery’s Villarreal squad.
