Top 10 Best African Football Leagues in 2020: Discover the Top 10 best football /National Leagues in Africa in 2020 according to IFFHS

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) last week released it’s 2020 classification of the best African football leagues.

The ranking of these National Leagues by the German firm depends on the performance of the top 5 teams in the league in both national and international levels.

In Africa, the Egyptian Premier League has been named the best League in Africa, it is closely followed by the Morocco Botola Pro League, and the third spot belongs to to Tunisia.

The complete podium of African National Leagues in 2020 by IFFHS appears as such;

1) Egypt – Egypt Premier League (15th in the world with)

2) Morocco – Botola Pro 1 (33th in the world)

3) Tunisia – Tunis Ligue 1 (36th in the world)

4) South Africa – Dstv/ABSA Premier League/Premier Soccer League (57th in the world)


5) DR Congo – Vodacom Super Ligue (60th in the world)

6) Zambia – Zambia Super League (65th in the world)

7) Sudan – Sudan Premier League (69th in world)

8) Tanzania – Tanzania Premier League (71th in the world)

9) Algeria – Algerian Ligue 1 (76th in the world)

10) Nigeria – Nigerian Professional Football League (77th in the world)

Al Ahly of Egypt won the African Champions league, the African Super two weeks ago and finished third in the international club world cup. They equally won the Egyptian Premier League.

To mention, all the top five sides in the Egypt Premier performed well on all ends. A reason why they won the first spot in IFFHS’ African best national league in 2020.

Bad management in African football accounts for the poor performance and rankings of some African Leagues.
