Top 5 Highest paid Players In Premier Soccer League (PSL) / DSTv Premier League / ABSA Premier League in 2021
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) or South African Premier League also called ABSA Premier League or DSTv Championship according to sponsorship is one of the most popular football leagues in Africa without a doubt. It is second to just the Egypt Premier League in some terms.
Thanks to Sponsorship deals by both SuperSports and DSTv channels most South African players can now stay home and gain celebrity status rather than travelling out to play in Europe.
With SuperSports almost accessible throughout the whole African continent as well as the world at large, many people now follow the Premier Soccer League closely. As such players are well paid. The average monthly salary of a PSL player is R100,000 ($7,143). This means that annually a PSL player earns an average salary of R1.2Million ($85,722).
1. Khama Billiat (Kaizer Chiefs)
Khama is the highest paid player in the PSL. Kaizer Chiefs paid a high price for Khama Billiats latest contract extension. The player who is twenty-nine years old, earns R10 million per year.
This corresponds to a monthly wage of R833,333 ($59,502), which is about eight times the average salary of most other footballers.
2. Itumeleng Khune (Kaizer Chiefs)
Itumeleng Khune is second highest paid player in the PSL and earns R480,000 (34,266) monthly.
Itumeleng Khune has for the longest time topped the list of the highest paid footballers in South Africa until recently when Khama Billiat took over the position. The thirty-two-year-old South African footballer plays as the goalkeeper for Kaizer Chiefs in the Premier Soccer League. He is also the goalkeeper for the South African national team. Being part of the national team is proof of how good he is at the sport.
There are speculations that his 21 years stay at the club may be coming to an end as his contract is due to expire around the end of this season. In the mean time, talks are still on going.
