Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-1 at Anfield on Wednesday evening to go top of the Premier League, thanks to Roberto Firmino‘s last-minute header.
Mohamed Salah scored an early goal after deflecting on Alderweireld before fly passing Lloris. Heung-min Son equalized late in the first half, and then late on, a late header from Roberto Firmino sent Liverpool above Tottenham and top of the Premier League table.
Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated play and probably deserved to edge it, while Jose Mourinho and Tottenham almost left Anfield with a point after a dogged defensive display as they missed some big chances on the counter.
Here are the Liverpool – Tottenham player ratings as we dish out marks out of 10 for the players on both teams.
Liverpool player ratings
Alisson Becker: 6
Little to do first half other than pick the ball out of the net and almost caught out after break by Kane following slack pass.
Trent Alexander-Arnold: 7
Didn’t get forward that much, but did his job defensively. A tough outing with Son drifting out to the left.
Rhys Williams: 7
A few shaky moments. Caught out of position on Spurs’ goal and switched off at the start of the second half. Targeted by Spurs, but hung in there. Great display by a 17 years old kid.
Steadying influence at centre-back and helped keep Kane quiet. Lost one header when Bergwijn hit the post but thrilled with one skillful passage of play second half.
Andy Robertson: 8
The liverpool’s Mr. reliable this season. Got forward on plenty of occasions and whipped in some great crosses.
Gini Wijnaldum: 8
Wijnaldum is a contender for Liverpool’s Player of the Year so far and he played his part in the Reds outplaying Tottenham for such large periods.
Jordan Henderson: 8
Prompted Liverpool and set the tempo while offering protection to the back four. Efforts more defensive in second half as Tottenham became more adventurous.
Curtis Jones: 9 (Man Of The Match)
His forceful run paved the way for the first goal with his willingness to push on required against a packed defence. So composed. Excellent again.
Mohamed Salah: 8.5
Lively down the right, forced one save from Lloris and netted the deflected opener. Regularly threatened but some crosses were hit in hope rather than expectation.
Roberto Firmino: 8
Touch on point and caused problems when stepping back into midfield. Twice tested Lloris first half and continued to find pockets of space and use the ball well. Brilliant header for winner. It now seems like any game he has some good shots on targets means he definitely will score late.

Sadio Mane: 7
Got into some great positions and a really good battle with Aurier. Came so close with his shot that hit the crossbar.
Tottenham player ratings
Hugo Lloris: 7
Great save to tip Mane’s shot onto the crossbar. Solid display saving many balls from Liverpool’s front three.
Serge Aurier: 7
Really good battle with Mane and gave as good as he got. He has improved defensively so much in recent weeks.
Toby Alderweireld: 5
Turned his back on Salah’s goal as Salah’s shot deflected off him, and lost Firmino for the winner. Rare off day for Tottenham’s backline veteran.
Eric Dier: 6
A decent enough defensive display as he did enough to head and clear crosses and shots.
Ben Davies: 6
Justified his selection in a more defensive lineup, as Tottenham tried to stop balls being played in-behind them.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: 7
Had a tough first-half but was back to some of his better play after the break following clear instructions from Mourinho to be more aggressive
Moussa Sissoko: 7
Employed in an unfamiliar right wing role in the first half, where he was tasked with shackling Robertson and running in behind. Did his job as usual but looked more comfortable back in the middle for the final half hour.
Steven Bergwijn: 5
Missed two big chances and that will haunt them. Worked so hard tracking back.
Lo Celso: 6
Lovely assist on Son’s goal, and was tidy enough. Booked.
Heung-min Son: 8
Took his goal really well and led some great counters. An electrifying display from the South Korean man.
Harry Kane: 6
A game to forget for Kane. Got lost as Fabinho quelled him so well. Should have scored a header at one end and could have done more to stop Firmino’s winner. Worked his socks off, but wasn’t really his night.
Lucas Moura (58′ on for Lo Celso): 6
Gave tottenham a decent shift and extra fire power off the bench.
Sergio Reguilon (76′ on for Bergwijn): 6
Worked hard on the left and got forward well.
Dele Alli (87′ on for Son): N/A
