Bright Arrey-Mbi: Who is Bayern Munich’s 17-year-old centre-back who started in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid?

Bright Arrey-Mbi was the youngest member of Bayern Munich’s mid-season training camp in Qatar last term at just 16 years old, and immediately impressed teammates Joshua Kimmich and David Alaba. It appears the future’s Bright, the future’s Arrey-Mbi.

The Cameroonian born German is the latest Bayern Munich U19 to be even a spotlight to the first team by coach Hansi Flick. Bright Arrey-Mbi has even been praise by Bayern’s Jushua Kimmich as a Physical Marvel.

It appears that Bright Arrey-Mbi is the son of an England-based Cameroonian legal practitioner Barrister Bright Arrey-Mbi.

Barrister Bright Arrey-Mbi was an upcoming footballer as far back as 1980’s who could play in multiple positions but mostly deployed as a goalkeeper. He later on dropped football at the Ajax  base football club of Kumba to pursue his studies abroad

It seems Bayern’s Arrey-Mbi is following in the early foot-steps of his father.

Born on the 26 March, 2003, Bright Arrey-Mbi was one of six Bayern players in the squad taken to Doha (Qatar) by Flick to have been born this side of the new millennium.

Bright Arrey-Mbi is being given the opportunity to further his development alongside the likes of multiple Bundesliga and World Cup winners Thomas MüllerJerome Boateng and Manuel Neuer.

Arrey-Mbi has earned his opportunity on the back of impressive performances for Bayern’s U19s last season, which saw them finish top of the Bundesliga U19 table after 19 rounds of match, before the season was cancelled due to the corona virus outbreak. With Arrey-Mbi in the side, Bayern U19s kept six clean sheets in his 14 league starts, with the centre-back also contributing two goals to the cause along the way. Arrey-Mbi helped bag Bayern a further four clean sheets from their six unbeaten UEFA Youth League group games that helped secure qualification to the knockout stages of last season’s tournament.


He was promoted to the reserve side for 2020/21 but has only made four appearances in the third division so far owing to a torn muscle fibre, but has impressed first-team boss Hansi Flick enough to be rewarded with a place in the starting line-up for Bayern’s UEFA Champions League Group A Matchday 5 encounter away to Ateltico Madrid.

Bright Arrey-Mbiis already rumoured to be similar to Seven times Bundesliga winner Jerome Boateng. Rumours say that he is the 17 years old Arrey-Mbi is a younger version of Boateng with a left foot.

Hidden truth about Bright Arrey-Mbi

He was born in Kaarst In Germany. However he first tasted international football in England for the English under 15 team. He has now represented Germany for the under 16 and under 17 teams. While in England he first played for Norwish for a season before moving to Chelsea. He spent five years in Chelsea from 2014. Bayern Munich came knocking in 2019.
